Geographic position

The spa is located at 564m altitudes, in the meeting place of the eastern side of Vrancea Mountains with the Depression of Bârsa, 31km far from Sfântu Gheorghe and 60km far from Brasov.

Natural curative factors

Hypo-tonic or hyper-tonic, carbogaseous, chlorosodic, bicarbonated mineral waters; mofettes; fortifying and sedative climate. The concentration of the mineral waters varies between 3.2 and 22.4g/l, with 2.5g/l carbon dioxide; gaseous emanations with 80-93% carbon dioxide; sedating sparing climate.

Historical information

Covasna became famous from ancient times due to "The Devil's Swampwith violent emanations of alkaline carbogaseous water and gray mud. The documentary attestation dates from the 16th century. The ruins of the Fairs` Citadel were the first proofs, which demonstrated the existence of the spa.

Climate

The climate is specific to the sub-alpine depressions, with cool summers and cold winters. The annual average temperature is 7 C (17C in July and -5C in January). The quantity of rainfalls is 600mm a year. The winds are moderate, the resort being protected by the mountains that surround it.

The concentration of the mineral waters is between 3.2 and 22.4g/l.

The Orthodox church built in the 16th century; “The Devils’ Swamp” monument of nature; the slanting carriage (installation for uphill timber transport); the “Fairies’ Valley (tourists’ halting place and dendrology park) with the “mountain peoples’” Nedeia festival in August; Voinesti village (folk costumes, carved gates with floral or hunting designs); Dalnic village (traditional local architecture monument), the Reformat Church (13th –15th centuries); Ozun village (the fortified church (the 14th-15th centuries), peat mine (monument of nature); Racosul de Sus village: the Unitarian fortified church (Attila Citadel) built in baroque style, in 1795; Varghis Gorges and Poiana Narciselor (natural Reserve).

The festival of traditional songs, dances and costumes from Balvanyos, every June;
