Geographic position

The spa is located at 450m altitudes, in the northeastern part of Oltenia, in an intra-hillock depression of the Meridional Carpathians, on both sides of Olanesti creek (tributary stream to the Olt river).

Natural Curative Factors

Mineral waters containing: sulphur, chlorine, iodine, bromine, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.

Oligo-mineral springs (11, 12, 24), hypotonic springs (5.7.8.9.10.14) and isotonic springs (3 and 19);

sedative climate.

Historical information

The first attestation of the resort dates from 1527. Documents written by the ruler Radu de la Afumati refer to some properties in Olanesti.

The mineral waters from Olanesti were used since 1760. The waters have been chemically analyzed for the first time in 1830. In the first Balneology book, written in 1837, the author described the therapeutic effects of the mineral waters from Olanesti. At the international exhibition from Vienna (1873) the mineral waters from Olanesti obtained the gold medal. Due to the fame obtained by the mineral waters, people decided to build "The Baths Hotel" sanatorium in Olanesti (1905).

Climate

Continental climate, with cool summers and mild winters. The annual average temperature is 9 C. (in July: 21.2 C and in January: -2.5 C). There are moderate winds and low nebulosity. The rainfalls are moderate (750-800mm).
