Geographic position

The spa is located at the foot of Furnica Mountains, on a plateau, nearby Prahova Valley. A big part of the city is situated on the right side of Prahova River, on the southeastern side of Bucegi Mountains. Vârful cu Dor and Furnica Mountains dominate the town with their 2000m high peaks.

Natural curative factors

The most important therapeutic factor is represented by the fortifying, tonic climate, with fresh air, deprived of dust and allergic factors, rich in ultraviolet rays and negative ions. The second natural therapeutic factor is represented by the mineral waters from "Valea Câinelui" spring, used for treating various affections.

Historical information

The resort started to develop since 1695, when Mihai Cantacuzino built the monastery and the cells that surround it. The road Brasov - Comarnic was built between 1875 and 1883; the Peles Castle was founded between 1875 and 1883 as a summer residence for the Royal family.

The openning of the railway between Comarnic and Brasov contribute to the developing of the town. At the beginning of the 20th century, people built the most beautiful villas in Sinaia and the chalets from Bucegi Mountains.

Sinaia is named also "the Pearl of the Carpathians" due to the beautiful environment, the atmosphere of the town, the vacantion facilities.

Climate

The climate is influenced by the resort location, in Prahova plateau. Thus, the air currents have low intensity. The winters are deprived of froze (-3.5 C in January), the summers are cool (15 C in July), the autumns are long, with blue sky, and the springs are mild. The annual average temperature is 6.5 C. The annual average quantity of rainfalls is 950mm. The snow layer predominates from November until the end of March, making Sinaia to be the queen of the winter sports.
