Geographic position

The spa is located at 530m altitudes, on the eastern slope of the Eastern Carpathians, in a depression where the Slanic brook runs.

Historical Information

The city's documentary attestation dates from 1755. While hunting bears in Slanic forests, Mihai Spiridon discovered the first mineral water spring (in 1800). Other springs have been discovered in 1807. The first balneary establishment was built in 1827 and the Moldavian landowners came there for therapeutic baths. This establishment was destroyed during the First World War and rebuilt afterwards. In 1832 the scientists made the first chemical analysis of those mineral waters, which became famous very soon.

Climate

The climate is transitional, between the hill and the sub-alpine climates. The annual average temperature is 7.4 C the mountain breeze blows in summer, when the sky is clear. The annual average of the rainfalls quantity is 700mm. The air is fresh, rich in resinous aerosols and negative ions.

The salt mine's air temperature is 12 C, the atmospheric pressure is 731mm Hg, the air humidity is 60-80%. All these parameters are constant.
